Tim Koontz Celebrates 30 Years with Dale Koontz Builder
This week, our team and family gathered at the shop to celebrate an upcoming milestone—30 years of service and leadership from our President and Owner, Tim Koontz. The milestone arrives this Friday, May 1st.
When Tim stepped into the business on May 1, 1996, Dale Koontz Builder was a very different company. There was no sales team, no estimator, no project managers, and no office beyond a room in his parents’ house. The crew consisted of just a handful of people—family members and a few young workers—building homes with a small but committed team.
There were no subdivision developments like Cambridge or Tuscany, and no presence in neighborhoods like Trinity Lakes, Drakewood, Hickory Pointe, or Northfield. Simply put, it was “just a home builder with a 6-man team and a home office.”
In reflecting on the past 30 years, Tim focused less on growth and more on the people who made it possible.
“My wife has supported me all along the way,” he shared. “She was there to re-focus my energy if I got upset or off track.”
He also recognized the loyalty of the team, noting, “It means a lot that two guys who were there the day I started are still with us today, and that others worked here for 30 and 40-plus years for the family business.”
That sense of family extends beyond the jobsite. Tim’s brother, Scott, summed it up well: “People tell me they couldn’t work with their family—but I always say my brother is smart, hardworking, and passionate. Who else would I want to be in business with?”
Looking ahead, Tim expressed confidence in the next generation of leadership. “My nephew (Matthew) has taken a big load off my plate by taking over the sales and estimating for our new home projects—and he is doing a terrific job,” he said. “Scott and I aren’t done yet, but we are ready to do less…with Matthew and Taylor we feel like we are in a great place for the future of the company.”
Tim also reflected on his involvement outside the business, including time spent serving on the Blessing Hospital board and in leadership at Life Point Church. “I appreciate that the team here at Dale Koontz Builder has supported me so that I can serve the community in that way,” he said.
While the celebration included a simple meal and cake, it marked something much bigger—30 years of steady leadership, strong relationships, and a foundation built to last.
